    All about Statesville

    Rolling ridges and valleys form the majority of the landforms in Iredell County. Fox Mountain, with the county's highest elevation of 1,760 feet is located in the northwest corner of the county. Statesville the county seat of Iredell County has a population of nearly 24,000.

    The Interstates 77 and 40 intersect in Statesville providing a total of nine interchanges. This crossroads in the Interstates continues Statesville position as a center of transportation going back to the time prior to the Civil War when Statesville was the end of the rail line that allowed the town to be the center of tobacco production and distribution in the South.

    The National Hot Air Balloon rally is held on the third weekend of September. With more than 100 participants it is the oldest balloon rally on the East Coast. In April, the Dogwood Festival provides a moth of festivities that feature games, crafts, and sports. The first weekend in May sees the Weekend in the Village festival that showcases the historic downtown Statesville and provides loads of food, local entertainers, crafts and arts. If you fancy Bluegrass music, then the Old Time Fiddler’s and Bluegrass Convention will appeal to you. Held in Union Grove each May you will find hundreds of musicians from across the country providing continuous entertainment for the fiddle lovers among us.

    No visit to this part of North Carolina would be complete without a visit to a NASCAR center. In Statesville, this would be the Everham Motorsports located on Aviation Drive. Jeremy Mayfield and Kasey Kahne are among the drivers who make up the Everham stable of Dodge drivers.

    Lake Norman dominates the area as a center of recreation and family outings. On the lake you can find a great day or night by going to the Catawba Queen and Catawba Belle Riverboats docked at Queen’s Landing off of River highway. Tennis courts, bumper boats, golf and lake cruises are available for all to enjoy.
