All about Huntersville

Concord is a city of nearly 56,000 residents is located in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Located just a few miles north of Charlotte, Concord is home to Lowe's Motor Speedway; Concord Mills Mall; and a NASCAR Research and Development Office. It is also home to several NASCAR race teams, including Hendrick Motorsports, Roush Racing, and Chip Ganassi Racing.

Concord’s association with automobile racing is eveidenced by the number of NASCAR related businesses that make the town their home. The Lowe’s Motor Speedway was formerly called Charlotte Motor Speedway until it became the first of the major tracks with a corporate sponsor. It features a 1.5 mile long quad-oval track that seats 167,000 people, with room for 50,000 more spectators in the infield. Constructed in 1959, it was the first speedway to host nighttime racing (in 1992) and to offer year-round residences (in 1984) with 52 condominiums now available over turn one. It is presently owned by, and is the main facility of, Speedway Motorsports. The speedway is considered the center of NASCAR, with 90% of NASCAR teams being based within 50 miles.

The facility is considered one of the busiest sports venues in the country, with typically over 380 events a year. Along with many races, the speedway also hosts the Food Lion Auto Fair twice a year, one the nation's largest car shows. Movies and commercials are filmed there, like Days of Thunder, and it is a popular tourist stop and testing grounds.

Concord Mills Mall is a large shopping mall located in Concord, North Carolina. It is North Carolina's largest tourist attraction, attracting over 15 million visitors a year. The mall is located about a mile from Lowe's Motor Speedway. Concord Mills opened in September of 1999 with over 200 stores. Its major establishments include Circuit City, Bass Pro Shops, Burlington Coat Factory, and Books-A-Million. Concord Mills is largely comprised of factory outlet stores for companies such as Old Navy, Nike, and Nautica.
